The Doernbecher x Nike Air Force 1 Low “2018” is a member of the celebrated Doernbecher Freestyle Collection from 2018. The set of Nike models designed by patients at the Doernbecher Children’s Hospital in Portland, Oregon, included this outstanding take on the Air Force 1 by Chloe Swientek, a 10-year old suffering from cystic fibrosis. The design for this Doernbecher Air Force 1 takes inspiration from Chloe’s daily goal of not letting her ailment slow her down. The shoe features a number of special details throughout, including her soccer uniform number “5” on the heel patch opposite soccer or basketball patches, and perforated into the right toe box. The word “BREATHE” is shown in bubbly letters within the clear Swooshes, and call outs to her mom and dad appear on the tongue tags. Other creative touches include “CF” for cystic fibrosis marking out the “AIR” branding on the midsole, and a graphic of an implanted device that helps her take her medication under the clear outsole that combines with the black circle of the heel’s sole design. The Doernbecher x Nike Air Force 1 Low “2018” by Chloe Swientek released in limited quantities in December 2018.
